| Finally, I've gotten to the point that reading chinese textbooks gives me a headache. I was just flipping through a chinese translation of one of my anatomy textbooks and was having a hard time understanding the content. I had no idea what the medical terms mean and it acutally took me more time to finish reading a paragraph then when I was reading the English version. I suppose English has really gotten into me after all these years. Others: Got my histology grade back. I did fine but need to do great next time. I've got an anatomy exam tomorrow. All those nerves and blood vessels are killing me. I think google is very usual when studying anatomy. | | |
| I've been too lazy to update but it seems like all my friends haven't been updating their xanga either, hahaha. Anyways, here goes. Class - So far only had quizzes (they don't really count; just need to accumulate enough points in order to take the final without taking an intergrative). First anatomy and histology exams are coming up, though, right before Christmas break. Break - The break is less than two weeks long. But the Norwegians went to the professors and were able to move some classes around so we'd have an extra week off. The downside of this is that we'll have a hell of a week right before break, with two biophysics quizzes, an anatomy exam and a medical chemistry quiz packed together. And the week before that, a biophysics quiz and an histology exam. Friends - 99% of them live in the Taiwanese dorm. I'm too lazy to visit them. Don't want to move there, either, because I really like my room and I love that I don't have to lock the bathroom door when I'm using the toilet or taking a shower. Entertainment - Most of the time I hang out with my computer. I read mangas online, watch movies and tv series. I am bored to the point that I'm hooked to all those series that I've grown sick of when I'm in the states. I'd go on the Taiwanese students' FTP multiple times everyday just to see if new episodes are uploaded. This is truly sad. I miss my movie dates and shopping trips with my college roommates, and especially the bedroom sessions we'd have. And when I'm not in front of the computer screen or reminiscing the good old days of college, I read. I've recently finished rereading the Lord of the Rings but have no more books to lay my hands on. Bookstores here don't carry much English books. I think I'll make a book list and have my sister bring them back for me during winter break. Others - I've been cooking fairly often and I've improved a lot. I miss having my desktop with me. I'm thinking of bringing it over. | | |
| Dish of the Week My room is now practically a tiny bistro, with almost everything you need in it. Appliances include an electric kettle, a toaster, a microwave/oven, and a cooking panel. The only thing I'm missing is a rice cooker, which is already on its way. Now I can cook without leaving my room; how great can it get?
Made roasted pork (紅燒肉) with my friend Wendy today. It was a success. With an encouraging outcome, I believe I'll be cooking more often in the future.
| Short Rib Soup I vowed that I wouldn't cook for as long as I can in Poland. And this silly vow is known amongst my friends. However, I am really starting to miss real Chinese food so I broke my vow and made short rib soup(排骨湯) today.
I think short rib soup is one of the easiet dish ever. All you need is short ribs, carrots, radishes some salt. My soup turned out to be a success and one of my friends Yvonne (I was teaching her biophysics), was here to share my little glory. Now that the news of me actually cooking is out, one group of my friends are asking me to make them some soup later this week (because they were suprised that I cooked). It feels funny to serve them short rib soup because this dish is a no-brainer, but if this is what they want, I'll give them what them want, haha.
| Back to Xanga! After trying out several blogs (including Google's Blogger, Taiwan's Yam and Pixnet) I realized Xanga is the best! So I'm returning to my old Xanga. I abandoned Xanga because my layout was messed up and I couldn't find a way to fix it. Luckily, I found the problem this afternoon and now everything is back to track. Due to the difficult-to-use problem, I haven't updated my other blogs (which I am leaving behind for good) for a couple of weeks but I have been keeping a dairy on my computer everyday. Hopefully I won't get lazy updating Xanga. Something new: I bought speakers for my laptop. They work like wonders. I finished painting my room. It is now pink and cozy! Anatomy is my favorite class so far. Dad promised to send me his skull (a real one that he owns) so I can study it, hahaha. | | |
